Hey there! Can you believe it, another blog post?! Today I’m diving into a topic that’s been making quite the impact lately—pun absolutely intended! 😈
Back in 2021, Joey wrote the blog post Spankers Are Among Us, and I was curious, now four years later, if the trend is on the way up, or on the way down. So, I did some research to dig a little deeper and…well, as you know from the spoiler in the title: more and more couples are discovering the delicious sting of consensual spanking. And no, it’s not just my imagination running wild after one too many sessions with my favorite paddle (though I do have an extensive collection over at our spanking implements section).
Again, let’s get one thing crystal clear before we continue: we’re talking about consensual adult spanking here. This has absolutely nothing to do with disciplining children—that’s a completely different topic and not what we’re about at Domestic Discipline. We’re all about enhancing adult relationships through mutually agreed power dynamics that bring joy, connection, and yes, sometimes a delightfully sore bottom!
🔥 From Taboo to Trending: The Cultural Shift
Remember when Fifty Shades of Grey hit the scene? While many of us in the lifestyle rolled our eyes at its many inaccuracies (don’t get me started!), it did something remarkable—it yanked BDSM into the mainstream spotlight. Suddenly, people who’d never even whispered the word “spank” were curious about what goes on behind closed doors.
According to the New York Post, the U.S. is now considered “the kinkiest country in the world,” with spanking being particularly popular among beginners. Why? It’s accessible, requires minimal equipment (though a good quality spanking implement does enhance the experience), and offers that perfect blend of naughty thrill and intimate connection.
Let’s get to “tHe ScIeNcE”…

🧠 The Science Behind the Sting: It’s Good For You!
This is where it gets really interesting, folks. Your body actually LOVES a good spanking—and science backs this up!
Researchers from the University of Northern Illinois and University of Pisa found that during consensual spanking sessions, participants experienced an increase in cortisol (that’s your stress hormone) followed by a rapid drop afterward. This hormonal rollercoaster creates what many in the community call “subspace”—a euphoric, almost meditative state. I remember when Joey first told me about, and we started practicing fun spankings, the rollercoaster of emotions I felt, whether I was giving the spanking, or receiving it. It was AMAZING!
Even more fascinating? Participants consistently reported feeling closer to their partners afterward. This isn’t just coincidence—it’s biology! The vulnerability, trust, and shared experience create a powerful cocktail of bonding hormones. Does that sound familiar? In many blog posts and on various social media platforms, both Joey and I have talked about the increased levels of love, trust and intimacy.
As someone who’s been in the lifestyle for many years and now an expert, I can personally attest to how a well-executed spanking session can transform an ordinary Tuesday night into an extraordinary bonding experience. There’s something about that moment when Joey and I connect through this ritual that transcends the physical sensation.
📊 By the Numbers: We’re Not Alone!
If you’ve been keeping your spanking desires a secret, thinking you’re in some tiny minority—think again! The statistics might surprise you:
- Between 5-25% of adults engage in BDSM-related activities, with spanking being among the most popular entry points
- A 2017 Belgian survey found 12.5% of respondents engaged in BDSM regularly
- Up to 46.8% had tried some form of BDSM at least once
That’s right—nearly HALF of adults have dipped their toes into these waters! And from what we’ve seen at Domestic Discipline, those numbers are only growing.
What I find particularly fascinating is how these practices cross all demographic boundaries. Our community includes people from every walk of life—executives who lead companies by day and surrender control in the evening, creative types who find discipline liberating, and couples who’ve discovered that power exchange adds a thrilling dimension to their long-term relationships.

💬 Real Stories, Real People: What You’re Saying
One of my favorite parts of running our blog is hearing your stories. And let me tell you, they’re incredibly affirming!
Take Sarah and James (names changed for privacy), who wrote to me last month: “After 15 years of marriage, we were in a rut. Discovering DD has completely transformed our relationship. The ritual of spanking has become our way to reset, reconnect, and reignite our passion. We communicate better than ever before.”
Or Morgan, who shared: “I never understood why I craved structure and consequences until I found your website. Now my partner and I have a framework that makes us both feel secure and deeply understood. The spanking aspect was intimidating at first, but now it’s our favorite way to maintain our dynamic.”
These aren’t isolated cases. Across forums like Reddit and in our private community discussions, people consistently describe discovering that consensual spanking improves:
- Communication (nothing makes you articulate your needs clearly like a power exchange dynamic!)
- Intimacy (the vulnerability creates unprecedented closeness)
- Stress relief (there’s nothing like a good spanking to clear the mind)
- Relationship satisfaction (many report feeling more fulfilled than ever before)
🌟 Thinking About Taking the Plunge?
If all this has you curious about adding some consensual spanking to your relationship, here’s my Queen-ly advice:
1. Start with communication (and keep it flowing)
Before anyone’s bottom gets rosy, you need to talk—extensively. Discuss what appeals to you about spanking, boundaries, fears, and desires. This isn’t a one-time conversation but an ongoing dialogue. This shouldn’t surprise our long-time readers as we’ve talked about the importance of communication many times over.
2. Begin with the basics
You don’t need fancy equipment to start (though we do have some lovely beginner-friendly implements if you’re interested). A hand spanking over the knee can be incredibly intimate and allows for easy communication and connection. Then up the ante to a thuddy sandal, then a belt, then a paddle and so on…
3. Establish safety protocols
In our not so humble opinion, we think safewords are a pretty good idea, and highly recommend them. Whether you choose something easy to remember like the traffic light system:
- Green: All good, continue or even intensify
- Yellow: Approaching a limit, proceed with caution
- Red: Full stop, session ends immediately
Or something more intimate, like Joey and I do:
- Please, I’ll kiss your feet
- Hold me
But at the end of the day, it is whatever works for you two!
4. Don’t skip aftercare
I won’t go too much into detail on this aspect as I recently did an entire blog post about it – The Importance of Aftercare. This might be the most important part! After intensity comes tenderness. Cuddle, hydrate, check in emotionally. This is where much of the bonding happens.

5. Educate yourselves
Knowledge is power—especially in power exchange! Our blog is a good resources for beginners, and by watching our spanking videos together, you can decide on what level is going to be acceptable to for you both. And watching Jess’s technique can be both educational and, ahem, stimulating.
👑 The Queen’s Final Thoughts
What I find most beautiful about this rise in consensual spanking isn’t just that more people are trying it—it’s WHY they’re drawn to it. In our hyperconnected yet somehow disconnected world, people are craving authentic intimacy, clear communication, and meaningful rituals.
Consensual spanking offers all of this and more. It creates a container for vulnerability, a structure for communication, and a ritual for connection. It allows partners to explore different facets of themselves in a safe, consensual environment.
So, is consensual spanking on the rise? Absolutely! And from where I’m sitting (on my royal throne – ok, deskchair 😉 ), this trend reflects something deeply positive—people actively seeking more intimate, authentic, and communicative relationships.
If you’re curious about exploring this dynamic further, remember you’re not alone. We are here to support your journey with resources, education, and a judgment-free zone to ask questions.
Until next time, keep it consensual, keep it communicative, and don’t be afraid to embrace the sting!

I’m sitting here in pain with a pulsating butt for Disagreeing with J, and embarrassing HER in front of our neighbors. She was livid which is very unusual for her, and used every implement she could quickly grab from her closet to spank me with. She lectured me saying, “My dear, I guarantee that you’ll never forget this spanking session!” I received well over 300 swats applied severely! I know you guys do your thing calmly most of the time. But Joey, what was your worst spanking ever given by your better half? And for what reason? Whew! I’ll be sleeping on my stomach tonight!
And it seems you really won’t forget
Lucky bastard
i very much enjoyed Your well-written article! It was interesting to learn that the stats showing that the interest in consensual adult spanking are rising. i’m not surprised, since movies/books like 50 Shades of Grey, Secretary (and i suppose Baby Girl, though i have not seen it yet) are getting the overall topic of D/s (including spanking) seen and discussed by more people all the time. i’d like to see those numbers rise considerably (and the faster the better) in order to awaken more Ladies to the idea that yes, they CAN (and SHOULD) spank men who know they need it!
Jack, do you receive spankings currently
Sadly, my vanilla Wife is currently in the non-spanking frame of mind at this time (for a number of reasons). i’m looking for the right time when She will be most receptive to once again give me at least weekly maintenance spankings as She had been doing for a while in the past. And while She and i have an agreement that i can look for No Nonsense Ladies to report to for punishment and discipline spankings (because for me it’s not a sexual thing), they are few and far between in my area of Central California. So far the best i can do is have video chats with Spankers who direct me to paddle my bottom, but finding them as well is sort of hit and miss (no pun intended).
Thank you for the kind words my friend! Sorry for the delayed response. I just missed it. 🙂 But yes, I would love to see those numbers rise as well.
What do you think will change about things as it becomes more common? My assumption is it will become a bit like sex: people assume it may be happening within a couple, and so it won’t be breaking a precedent by revealing that it happens, even if people wouldn’t tell everyone indiscriminately about it.
I assume for instance, that a man has a job or leisure activity that involves common showers, say being in the army, navy, air force or whatever, attending a gym etc, there will be no need for him to feel reticent about there being visible marks.
That’s an interesting thought, others seeing marks and it being just an “not too out of normal thing.” I guess it would take a few pioneers, to test those waters and be tough enough for the initial onset of ridicule. But I would bet more than half of them that would tease, would be driving home thinking…wow, that’s kinda’ hot. Or as Joey gets all the time from our readers and viewers of the spanking videos…Wow, he’s a lucky guy. Thanks for the comment and thoughts!
I’m too Macho to let people know that I am spanked otk with a hairbrush &!many times to crying real tears , by my 135 pound lovely wife ! Disgraziato
Being freed from the mentioned embarrassment can be very liberating.
Also, a separate subject, do you have views on other non-spanking forms of discipline within couples? And would you consider writing about them too?
Good question, and you’re right discipline can come in various forms. I know of couples where “writing lines” comes into play, or corner time, or even grounding from shows or going out. It really depends on what works for the couple. For us, discipline = spanking. I know, we’re boring. 😉 But again, that is what works for us. The “right” way, is whatever works for the couple in the relationship. But sure, that could be a good blog post. I’ll come up with something. Stay tuned!
Sorry, should have clarified. I meant PHYSICAL non-spanking forms of DD.
Ah, I see and thanks for the clarification. I still had a variety of creative and constructive discipline ideas in my new post. One of them was physical, but feel free to add in the comments any others you had in mind. Keep in mind that I’m very wary of things that might be considered abusive in most circles.
Which non-spanking physical punishments would you say you are more wary of and which ones are you less wary of?
I guess anything where one is hitting the other, in other places beside the backside, or anything that can cause physical harm.
What if it is pain applied elsewhere, but not harmful (and obviously consensual)?
she states she is gonna spank me …then backs out….what gives??
Well, if spanking is a little (or a lot) out of her normal practices, then it can be an daunting task to say the least. If she says she is going to, then backs out, she might be feeling insecure or even scared about following through with it. The best advice I can give is to talk to her about it. Either in person, or in a text, email or a letter. Let her know if it’s something you really want, or feel you need.
If you haven’t already, check out this post I wrote quite a few years back. It’s helped several couples move forward in their spanking adventures.
Why Women Should Consider an F/m Spanking Relationship
My lady disciplinarian has started to emphasize that letting marks show afterwards is part of accepting who I am. She often calls me the next day when I am leaving work saying “Remember no covering up when walking to the showers. Its perfectly normal. Be accepting be proud of your welts. Thats you. Nobody cares or will comment but you need to be boldly accepting.” I think I more or less follow her words.
Sorry , but I’m not comfortable with people knowing that I am given punishment spankings. Only J knows that I’m not macho ! I stay away from public showers until my many marks have faded away . Disgraziato
I understand how you feel, though I am always pleased when more men challenge the taboo.
Many times , when I have the “Forbidden Third Drink” At a party, J Will casually walk up to me with a big smile and say Soto Voce “Honey , later at home , your ass is going to be grass , & , ha, ha, ha, “ I’M Going to be the LAWN MOWER!”…, Disgraziato …Hey Joey , are you ever told that you are later going to be spanked , from your “smiley faced “ better half ?
A couple times after she gave me a woodshed spanking, she would start to paint her toenails. So to get my mind off of my pulsating painful behind, I decided to get on my knees and paint them for her. She was always pleased with the result and said, “You do a better job than I do.” Several months later, she said, “Hmm, it’s time to do my toenails, but first bring me the hairbrush.” I thought she was kidding but she then rattled off a dozen reasons why she was going to blister my bottom. Afterwards I tearfully did her toenails in the color of her choice. Hey, Joey, are you ever taken to the woodshed by surprise?
Not really – I pretty much know when one is coming. But there have been occasional impromptu whuppin’s. One of which turned into a harsh woodshed whuppin’. And I’ve tried the painting toenail thing for Jess, but I was terrible at it. LOL
Get those little toe spreader things. Put those piggies in those spreader thingies. It helps big time. Press down on the brush and try to get to polish on in one smooth stroke.
Here is the best secret. So put some lotion on her feet but especially on the toes. The lotion keeps any escaping polish from sticking to her skin. You can wipe it off or watch it disappear in a quick shower of her feet.
